LMPD detective charged in Bullitt County crash pleads not guilty, next court date set

Timothy Davis is accused of crashing his unmarked LMPD cruiser while off duty in Bullitt County. He remains on administrative leave.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville Metro Police detective charged with two felonies was arraigned in a Bullitt County courthouse Monday afternoon.

Timothy Davis is accused of crashing his unmarked LMPD cruiser while off duty in Bullitt County.

Davis, who remains on administrative leave, is charged with tampering with physical evidence and criminal mischief, both felonies, and reckless driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

According to an arrest citation, Davis sped past a stop sign and crashed into a trailer owned by Tailored Renovations. At the time of the crash, Davis was asked if he had been drinking, he said no, but had a breath test of 0.90.

The citation notes that Davis also lied to police about when the crash occurred. He told responding officers the crash happened at 1 a.m. but surveillance video showed it happened several hours earlier.

Surveillance video shows the impact of the crash and the driver walking around the scene. According to police, Davis hid from multiple passing vehicles.

His wrecked unmarked cruiser sat for nearly four hours unlocked and unattended. Davis is then seen returning in a vehicle driven by a person he later said was his spouse. According to Mt. Washington Police, Davis cleared the remaining police equipment from the vehicle and placed it in his spouse's vehicle.

Davis will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on August 8.

Tailored Renovations told WHAS11 their estimated losses were $50,000, but the renovation company said it's still waiting to hear back from LMPD about its claim coverage.
