Man charged in May Southside shooting leaving 2 injured including 8-year-old

Louisville police said the incident happened near the Heritage Green Apartments on May 5.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is in custody months after a shooting in Louisville’s Southside neighborhood injuring two people including an 8-year-old.  

Justice Grier, 20, has been charged with two counts of assault and wanton endangerment.

Police said the incident happened May 5 at a basketball court which adjoins the Heritage Green Apartments on Colonial Oaks Court.

According to police, the 8-year-old victim and his two brothers were being babysat by Gregory Jackson and Jackson’s friend.

They were there playing basketball when police said Grier approached the corner of the church with another person.

Grier allegedly asks a bystander which person was “Greg.”

When Jackson approached police said both Grier and the other person began firing in the direction of Jackson, putting him and other bystanders at risk for death or serious injury.

Police said Jackson and others began to run away from danger, the 8-year-old was struck in the thigh which caused life-threatening injuries. Another victim was shot in the hand.

Both victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment.

Grier was taken into custody on Nov. 27 and is currently booked at Metro Corrections.
