George Lee Jr., 39, is facing several charges, including kidnapping and wanton endangerment.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Hardin County Grand Jury has returned an indictment against the man accused of shooting inside a hospital on Oct. 19.

George Lee Jr., 39,  is facing several charges, including kidnapping and wanton endangerment.

Elizabethtown Police said they served the indictment warrants after he was released from UofL Hospital.

Around 5 a.m. that Saturday morning, the Elizabethtown Police Department responded to reports of a man at Baptist Health Hardin who had a gun and was making threats.

Chris Denham, a spokesperson with Elizabethtown Police, mentioned in a press conference that the suspect fired shots near the emergency room before officers arrived at the scene.

According to authorities, officers arrived on the scene within minutes and made contact Lee, who was armed with a handgun in the hallway.

An officer shot Lee after he turned towards the officers with the gun in his hand, and first responders transported him to UofL Hospital investigators said.

Police said he will be housed in the Hardin County Detention Center.

Kentucky State Police identified the officer as Lt. Alex Ruiz, who is a 10-year veteran with the department. He has been placed on paid administrative leave.

This is routine procedure when law enforcement officers fire their weapons.
