Motion for mediation filed for Kentucky mom accused of fatally shooting her 2 young sons

Tiffanie Lucas of Bullitt County is charged with killing her 6-year-old and 9-year-old boys.

A Bullitt County woman accused of shooting and killing her children appeared in Bullitt County Circuit Court on Monday.

Tiffanie Lucas is currently charged with two counts of murder. During the hearing, a motion for mediation was filed, which means the prosecution and defense are expected to come together to try to make a deal.

Last month, a judge set her trial date for Dec. 17, however, if the prosecution and defense reach an agreement, there may not be a trial. Lucas previously pleaded not guilty to both counts of murder.

CASE BACKGROUND

Lucas was arrested last November after police found her two sons, 6-year-old Maurice Baker Jr. and 9-year-old Jayden Howard, dead inside her Bentwood Drive home in Shepherdsville.

Police were called to Lucas' home on Nov. 8 and found both boys suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. They both were taken to Norton Children's Hospital where they later died.

Bullitt County Sheriff's Detective Richard Beahl testified what he saw and heard the day he answered the call for a double shooting on Bentwood Drive. He said two neighbors from the same house called 911 once they heard gunshots coming from next door.

Lucas told police someone had given her a firearm, which she left in the bedroom, indicating the shooting may have been an accident. She said no one else had been inside the home.

Beahl said Lucas told police she was "in such a bad spot," and that she would "never do anything like this unless someone manipulated me," and that what happened "was an accident."
