Detective investigated allegations of abuse against Nelson County woman for months

"She was manipulating and telling this person to say certain things to law enforcement and to conceal the truth," Det. Brandon Teater said.

NELSON COUNTY, Ky. — After a four-month-long investigation by the Nelson County Sheriff's Office, Bloomfield resident Katelyn Rogers was arrested on multiple felonies for allegedly operating an unlicensed daycare.

Rogers is charged with criminal abuse, human trafficking, and tampering with a witness and with physical evidence.

A mother from Bardstown, who wished to speak anonymously, said she had two children under Rogers supervision.

"So we actually posted on Facebook on 'Nelson County Overwatch' to ask if anyone had any reliable sitters," she said. "She reached out to us. So we actually met with her a few times and toured her house."

One of those charges is human trafficking.

After the Cabinet of Health and Family Services passed along a complaint from a parent, Nelson County Det. Brandon Teater started investigating the allegations of abuse. During the investigation, he uncovered more wrongdoing.

"The tampering of the witness and human trafficking have to do with a witness that was involved," Teater said. "She was manipulating and telling this person to say certain things to law enforcement and to conceal the truth when being questioned by us."

The detective said Rogers was scaring another woman to provide childcare services for free with the threat of kicking her and her child out of the house. The mother WHAS11 spoke to said she never had any problems with Rogers and was surprised to hear about the charges.

"I wish my children where never in a situation like this," she said. "I never wanted to have to explain this to my children. Because my youngest she's a very shy kid. She doesn't reach out to a lot of people. She took up to Katelyn very fast."

"As of now we only have one victim," Teater said. "I don't have any other particular reports from other parents."

Teater encourages every parent looking for daycare services to always do their research to the best of their ability.

If you had a child under Roger's supervision who may have experienced abuse, you're encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 502-348-1840.
