Authorities said they found 56-year-old Sally Samourian dead in her home after conducting a wellness check.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The New Albany Chief of Police and Floyd County prosecutor said the suspect charged in a recent homicide on Greenview Drive is the victim's son.

Authorities said they found 56-year-old Sally Samourian dead in her home after conducting a wellness check.

The probable cause affidavit detailed her throat had been cut, and officers found her on the ground.

Officers found 23-year-old Maxwell Samourian still in the house.

"They don't know what they're walking into, that's what we forget," he said. "They don't know what they're walking into. The allegations in this particular case though they're walking into something horrible."

Lane said officers worked through the night on the case.

"While you and the public are safe as you should be," he said. "These men and women worked incredibly hard. In every investigation you have a window of opportunity. And they worked aggressively to collect evidence."

Maxwell is currently at UofL Hospital under psychiatric watch. He has been charged with murder.
