Bus issues impact JCPS superintendent's annual evaluation

Dr. Marty Pollio received the score "needing improvement" in one category.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Public Schools Board of Education held a meeting Tuesday night ahead of the first day of school.

During the meeting, the board approved JCPS Superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio's annual evaluation. According to Pollio, the transportation disaster at the start of last school-year did play a role in his scores.

Last year, he was rated as "exemplary" or "accomplished" in all categories. This year, however, Pollio says the board marked one score of "needing improvement" under human resource leadership.

"I believe that's rightfully so. We need improvement not necessarily in the human resources department, but in human resources and I think that's a lot about shortage of bus drivers and what happened on the first day," Pollio said.

The board left Superintendent Pollio's salary at its current amount, $350,244, for the upcoming year.

After the board meeting, Board Chair Corrie Shull and longtime Member Linda Duncan told WHAS11 News Superintendent Pollio didn't request a raise; therefore, they didn't press the issue.

Outgoing Board Member Chris Kolb told WHAS11 News the board should have given Pollio a raise to make sure he remains in the position after this year.
