LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Months after Norton Healthcare first reported a "cyber incident," letters have been sent out warning people about a data breach.
In the letter, they said whoever attacked them accessed network storage devices between May 7 and May 9, 2023. Norton Healthcare has been working with authorities and cybersecurity experts since, and has enhanced it's security safeguards.
Norton Healthcare also said while they did not access the medical record system or Norton MyChart, other information that may have been impacted included:
- name
- contact information
- Social Security number
- birth date
- health information
- insurance information
- medical identification numbers
- driver's license numbers or other government IDs
- financial account numbers
- digital signatures
The information impacted is different from person-to-person they added. Norton believe about 2.5 million customers, who they had addresses for, would be affected.
"We regret any inconvenience this incident may cause you," Norton said.
The healthcare giant enlisted Kroll's identity monitoring services according to the letter, and the deadline to sign up for the free service is March 7, 2024.
Included in the service is Credit Monitoring, Fraud Consultation and Identity Theft Restoration services Norton Healthcare said.
To enroll, anyone who received the letter is asked to go to Kroll's website and follow the sign up instructions. Included in the letter is a Membership Number exclusive to the recipient.
Anyone who has questions is asked to contact Norton Healthcare toll-free by calling (866) 983-5764 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. excluding holidays.
