Norton Healthcare confirms ransomware attack, mailing letters to those impacted

The healthcare giant said they have no evidence that unauthorized individuals gained access to Norton's medical record system or their MyChart system.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Norton Healthcare has finally providing an update on the cyber security incident from May, officially confirming it as a ransomware attack. 

Norton has been working with law enforcement since the attack, according to a news release.

The healthcare giant said after a multi-month investigation they concluded that unauthorized access to certain network storage devices happened between May 7 and May 9. 

A spokesperson for Norton said  they have no evidence that the unauthorized individual(s) gained access to Norton Healthcare’s medical record system or Norton MyChart. They said Norton is in the process of mailing letters to people who may have been impacted by the incident and who Norton had a mailing address for.

People whose information may have been impacted will be offered two years of free credit protection services. More information about the credit protection services will be available in the notifications that are being mailed, officials said.

Starting Dec. 8,  potentially affected individuals with questions or concerns regarding this incident may contact a designated call center at (866) 983-5764, Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
