Mother seeks justice after son fatally shot at Dosker Manor nearly a year ago

"Please just tell us call somebody tell somebody so his son's can start healing because we're not healing at all without answers."

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Dorothy Head is not able to heal without any answers after her son, 34-year-old William Grant, died on June 30, 2023.

"William was the person that made the party," said Head.

It's been nearly 10 months since Grant was shot while visiting at Dosker Manor Apartments in June of last year.

He was rushed to UofL Hospital where he died.

"They told me they tried to save him but they could not," Head said. "They said he took one bullet to the chest and he died."

It's painful for the grieving mother, who has no answers about who killed her son and what led to the shooting.

The last thing she told him was to avoid the apartments.

"'Stay away from Dosker Manor' but he was telling me he's grown, let him be a man; and him being a man got him killed," said Head.

Safety has become a top concern at Dosker Manor after several violent incidents.

In a statement, a Metro Housing Authority spokesperson said:

"Ensuring the safety and security of all our residents across our properties remains our top priority, and the Louisville Metro Housing Authority acknowledges there is much work to be done. With new leadership in place for just over two months, LMHA has implemented a series of security enhancements not only at Dosker Manor but across all our properties. We look forward to working with residents and the community to continue to do more.

These challenges are multifaceted and require a holistic approach. Our efforts include forging stronger partnerships with the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) and our Housing Authority Liaison Officers (HALO), who conduct regular foot patrols, including at Dosker Manor. Furthermore, we've ramped up enforcement of trespassing orders, provided additional training for security personnel, and upgraded building entrances to limit access exclusively to authorized individuals with key fobs. Additionally, we're enforcing lease agreements with residents to uphold a safer living environment for everyone. Last month, we initiated a resident engagement process, facilitating one-on-one conversations between residents and senior staff members. And we've also begun offering more supportive services to better serve our community.

While safety and security are paramount, we recognize that this is a big challenge that will take continued hard work and strong partnerships."

"If you know anything just please, just please, be anonymous, whatever, please help us get closure," Head said.

Grant's family has experienced many sleepless nights and they're still seeking justice.

"I try my best to trust God in all of this but it's hard when your heart is breaking, and it's broken" said Head.

Grant also left behind two grieving sons.

"Please just tell us, call somebody, tell somebody, so his son's can start healing because we're not healing at all without answers," she said.

Praying someone will eventually come forward.
