Louisville ABC: Southland Park club's liquor license suspended after shooting; what comes next?

The action comes after a deadly shooting inside the club killed two and injured two.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville Alcoholic Beverage Control has issued an emergency suspension of the Hot Spot's liquor license after a shooting at the Club killed two and injured two others.

Officers responded to the scene near the 200 Block of Evangeline Avenue around 5 a.m. Saturday, a Louisville Metro Police spokesperson said.

Upon arrival, Police found one man shot dead, as well as another man and women injured in the shooting.

First responders took the two victims to UofL Hospital, where the man eventually died. Shortly after, LMPD notes, a man arrived at the hospital, saying he'd also been shot at the night club.

In the last update LMPD shared, the man is in stable condition and the woman is in serious condition.

LMPD's Homicide Unit is leading this investigation. There are currently no known suspects and police are asking for the public's help.

Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call LMPD's anonymous tip line at (502) 574-5673 or utilize LMPD's Crime Tip Portal online.

In an interview with WHAS11 News, Saturday, Metro Councilman Khalil Bahtson, R-D25, said the "the Hot Spot" stayed open past 4 a.m. that night, and has previously been cited by Louisville Alcoholic Beverage Control for noise violations and smoking violations.

When WHAS11 News reached out to a Louisville ABC spokesperson regarding the incident, they responded its "...still being investigated."

This marks the latest nightlife shooting incident in Louisville since March, when one man died after being shot inside Café 360 in the Highlands.

In the aftermath, Metro Council passed an ordinance allowing Louisville ABC to issue emergency suspensions of licenses, in cases where there's a threat to public safety, health or welfare across the county. That included situations involving firearm use and violations that lead to a death..

"So we showed up (with) the law and the ordinance. And that's why I say Metro Council and the ABC are working aggressively to start knocking this out," Bahtson said. "Unfortunately, this was the one that it had to take to, to see where those actors are.

A suspension hearing for the licensee, in this case the Hot Spot, will take place within three days of the action.

"I just want everybody to just bear with LMPD and ABC as they work diligently and aggressively with us and the Metro Council to combat these issues," Bahtson said.
