Hurricane Helene impacts | Full list of Kentucky and Indiana school closings

Helene will continue to strengthen as the storms moves quickly north over the Gulf of Mexico.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Hurricane Helene is making a big impact on the southern U.S and Kentucky is no exception. With heavy rains on the way some school districts have decided to close.

So far, these school districts have closed or moved to virtual instruction:

  • Borden/Henryville Schools- Virtual Instruction
  • Greater Clark Co. Schools - Virtual Instruction
  • New Albany Floyd County Schools and Prosser Career Center - Closed no e-learning
  • Silver Creek School Corporation - closed, e-learning
  • The University of Louisville - Classes canceled, offices closed

Hurricane Helene is expected to impact Louisville Friday, and area high schools are making adjustments to the football schedule.

The following games originally scheduled for Friday will now be played Thursday:

  • Manual High School vs. Christian Academy of Louisville: 7 p.m. at Manual. 
  • LaRue County vs. Kentucky Country Day: 7:30 p.m. at KCD. 
  • Jeffersontown vs. Doss: 7 p.m. at Doss. 
  • North Bullitt vs. Seneca: 7:30 p.m. at Seneca.  
  • North Hardin vs. Bullitt East: 7 p.m. at Bullitt East. 
  • Lafayette vs. Moore: 7:30 p.m. at Moore. 
  • Valley vs. Waggener: 7 p.m. at Waggener. 
  • Breckinridge County vs. John Hardin: 7:30 p.m. at John Hardin. 
  • Campbellsville vs. Bethlehem: 7 p.m. at Bethlehem. 
  • Trimble County vs. Iroquois: 7:30 p.m. at Iroquois.  
  • Central Hardin vs. Central: 7 p.m. at Central.  
  • LCA vs. Shawnee: 6 p.m. at Shawnee.  
  • Scott County vs. Collins: 8 p.m. at Collins. 
  • Thomas Nelson vs. Nelson County: 7 p.m. at Nelson County. 

The DeSales at Western game was already scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.

Floyd County High School game is rescheduled for noon on Saturday (weather permitting).

WHAS11 Weather Impact Team says Helene will continue to strengthen as the storms moves quickly north over the Gulf of Mexico, possibly becoming a Major Category 4 Hurricane. 

Helene will quickly weaken as the storm moves inland over Georgia, but will still pack heavy rain and gusty winds for Kentucky and Indiana Friday.
