'Everybody's hurting': Southern Indiana community grieving Georgetown teen killed in car crash

Dylan Wilson, 19, of Georgetown died in a car collision on Thursday morning. One resident said State Road 135 has always been dangerous.

GEORGETOWN, Ind. — When Georgetown, Indiana resident Carolyn Rhodes heard about the fatal accident that killed 19-year-old Dylan Wilson, she could nearly picture the terror.

"I knew exactly where that curve is," Rhodes said. "Because I experienced almost having an accident on that curve myself 37 years ago when my son was a baby."

Wilson died in a car accident on Thursday morning in Harrison County.

Rhodes, selling essential oils on Friday evening at a farmer's market in Georgetown, said the tragedy has shaken up the small community.

"It's sad for the whole community to lose a young person," she said. "It not only breaks the family. This is a tight-knit community so everybody's hurting."

Indiana State Police said he was driving northbound on State Road 135 as he lost control of his car while maneuvering a curve in the road.

Police said he drove off the roadway and into a rock wall. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Rhodes said State Road 135 has been dangerous for a while. She said that 37 years ago, she experienced a close call around the curve near Trestle Road.

"I just thank God that God saved me that day around that curve so I could raise my son," Rhodes said. "It was on the same curve where the boy tragically lost his life."

Now, Dylan's life is being remembered on social media.

"He was my son's best friend. He was a good kid and my son (and our whole family) is just absolutely devastated," said Robin Martin Farias on Facebook.
