Authorities find human remains in same area where southern Indiana woman was last seen

Amanda Martin's family said they haven't heard from or seen her since Sept. 13.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Authorities found human remains in Scott County, Indiana on Tuesday, according to the sheriff's office. 

In a post on social media, on Tuesday, deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Office and detectives with Indiana State Police found the remains in the same area where Amanda Martin was last seen.

Martin's family said they hadn't heard from or seen her since Sept. 13.

The sheriff's office said the remains were recovered and are now scheduled for a forensic examination to confirm the identity and cause of death, which could take six to eight weeks.

“We are saddened by the discovery of the remains discovered yesterday, but we also realize a family can now possibly begin to heal," Sheriff Jerry Goodin said. "This is an active investigation, and I personally appreciate the help from our law enforcement partners. Together, we continue to seek a factual conclusion about what happened here. I want to ask if you have any information that would help us with this investigation, please give us a call."
