Jeffersonville rolls out marketing campaign to attract more experienced police officers

City council recently approved big contract changes, including raises and better retirement savings plans.

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — The city of Jeffersonville is launching a new marketing campaign to attract experienced police officers to the city.

City council recently approved big changes to police officer contracts, including pay raises and a higher salary for new officers. The city is targeting all major cities and college towns in Indiana and Kentucky, as well as the Cincinnati area, through digital advertising on multiple platforms.

“This raise will go a long way in bringing the pay for our police officers in line with other departments in the area,” Mayor Mike Moore said. “It will send a message that Jeffersonville is committed to compensating our officers for their work and sacrifice.”

The new contract increased starting pay to $66,000 annually, and includes 8.5-hour shifts with five days on, four days off. Officers now receive 18 paid holidays in addition to PTO, "exceptional" insurance and a take-home police car.

Longevity pay includes 1.5% up to 25 years on base pay, and a 3% matching retirement savings plan. Longevity is credited after four years.

According to a news release, Jeffersonville police offers the highest-paid retirement in Indiana. The 33-hour work week is the first in the state and second in the country.

Mayor Moore believes the new hiring package will have a positive impact on the department and the city.
