New Albany man charged in fatal shooting after dispute with man allegedly holding sword

Police said a 68-year-old man is in custody after shooting another man allegedly holding a sword during a reported dispute.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man has been shot and killed following an alleged dispute in southern Indiana.

According to Indiana State Police, 68-year-old Kevin Campbell was inside his home in the 1000 block of Slate Run Road around 5 p.m. Saturday when he allegedly heard a knock on his window.

Police said he went to the door of his home after getting a small caliber rifle.

When Campbell opened the door, he noticed 41-year-old Christopher Proctor standing outside and allegedly holding a sword.

Investigators believe Proctor went to the doorway towards Campbell with the sword in his hand. That’s when they said Campbell fired a shot, striking Proctor in the chest.

Police said Campbell waited two hours to call police to report Proctor dead in his yard.

When officers arrived, Campbell told them he had shot Proctor.

Campbell was detained by detectives and interviewed at ISP’s Sellersburg post.

Currently, ISP said Campbell is charged with obstruction of justice. He is currently being housed at the Floyd County Jail.
