Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said a typical renewal should take five minutes, but with the delays, it takes 20 to 30 minutes to make one transaction.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Switching databases at the Jefferson County Clerk's Office isn't going quite as planned.

The clerk's offices across the state said they're struggling due to the transition over to the new online motor vehicle database.

Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said a typical renewal should take five minutes, but with the delays, it takes 20 to 30 minutes to make one transaction.

"This is a situation that is totally out of our hands, there is nothing that we can do to make it any better," she said. "We'll try to work with Frankfort and tell them the problems we're having and hoping that they're going to fix it."

Holsclaw said if the delays continue to happen, and the offices are not able to service their typical amount of customers, there will be cascading financial consequences.

"Were not able to serve our customers in the way that we're used to serving them and its creating a lot of problems," she said. "Our branches are backed up, people sitting so close together, they're waiting forever to be waited on, and let me say its so frustrating for the customer but its also so frustrating for our clerks."

Holsclaw added online phone renewals are back up and running and it would be a big help if anyone looking for a renewal tried to do it online become heading to a clerk's office.
