LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Not only will Kentucky be switching the motor vehicles database over the span of two weeks in January, but the motor vehicle branches will also be closed.
According to a news release, the branches will close Jan. 1 and will reopen when the new database, called KAVIS, is online.
Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said the "sweeping nature of this database transition leaves us little choice but to close our branch locations at the start of the new year."
"We’ll be spending this time making sure our deputy clerks are fully trained on the new system," she said. "All of our other non-Motor Vehicle related divisions—like the Legal Records Deed Room, Elections Center, and Professional License department will remain available and ready to serve you.”
During this time, drivers can only get a Sheriff's Auto Inspection at 810 W. Market Street, Louisville Kentucky, 40202, anytime between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday according to the release.
Anyone who needs to drop off property tax payments can visit the downtown Louisville Jefferson County Sheriff's Office at the Fiscal Court building. The address is 531 Court Place, Louisville Kentucky, 40202.
The deadline for drop box payments has also been extended to Jan. 8.
Anyone with questions about vehicle inspections can call (502) 574-5085, and those with questions about property tax payment drop-offs can call (502) 574-5479.
