'Not cold call with false claims': Jefferson County Clerk's Office warns of ongoing scam

Callers will falsely claim the person owes past due or back taxes, refuse to give their name and ask for the person's Social Security Number according to the office.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Head's up, Louisville; the Jefferson County Clerk's office has a warning about an ongoing scam.

According to a news release, callers pretending to be from the clerk's office have reached out to customers. They've falsely claimed the person owes past due or back taxes, refuse to give their name and ask for the person's Social Security Number.

“I want people to know that no one from the County Clerk’s Office will call you, refuse to identify themselves, ask for your Social Security Number and claim you owe taxes,” Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw said. “Our Call Center is here to help people who have questions about our services, not cold call with false claims.”

Anyone with questions or concerns is encouraged to call the office at (502) 574-5700.

Property owners can also sign up for ClerkAlert; it's a free service that helps fight fraud. 

The service notifies you any time documents containing your name are recorded in the Jefferson County Clerk's Office according to the release.
