LMPD releases new details on safety plan in Highlands

While the department is still short some officers, they said patrols in the Highlands are being covered by some officers working overtime or extra shifts.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police has released new details about the updated safety plans for the Highlands.

It comes after shootings occurred around several late night businesses on Baxter Avenue.

The new safety measures are a partnership between city leaders, Alcoholic Beverage Control and LMPD.

They including increasing patrols for nuisance offenses and installing surveillance cameras.

Lt. Col. Emily McKinley told WHAS11 News that LMPD has a detail that patrols the area and they are trying to make their officers visible to the community.

"We encourage our officers to interact with the community, receive information from them and as well as the community interacting with our officers," she said. "We want that positive interaction, so we've had that so people can see our officers they can see our vehicles on the road."

While the department is still short some officers, they said patrols in the Highlands are being covered by some officers working overtime or extra shifts.

Leaders have also asked for the community's help by saying if anyone sees anything suspicious, to please report it by calling 574-3591 and use extension four.
