Waterfront Park prepares for 4th of July fireworks, but weather could halt celebrations

One southern Indiana city has already cancelled its Fourth of July celebration due to inclement weather on Thursday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With less than 24 hours until Fourth of July, inclement weather on Thursday could halt some celebrations.

On Wednesday, New Albany officials cancelled the city's Shoreline Independence Day celebration. Mayor Jeff Gahan said the city is planning to reschedule the firework celebration to another date in the near future.

Meanwhile other celebrations are monitoring the incoming weather.

At Waterfront Park, celebrations are still expected to go on rain or shine.

"We are extra excited this year to celebrate with the community, and this really is a community event. This is a community space, we will see people from all over the area," Deborah Bilitski, executive director of Waterfront Park, said. She added that this is the 25th anniversary of the first phase of Waterfront Park.

Jou Jou Papailler, event producer with Jou Jou Presents, said families can expect lots of entertainment on Thursday.

"We've got singers, dancers, musicians, singer songwriters, and it's going to be great for the entire family," he said.

Event oragnizers are also planning to help people beat the heat with plenty of water and cooling stations in place.

"The Louisville police and fire departments will make sure that people have a tent to go to cool down, ice and water if they need it, so we've prepared for everything," Papailler said.

In Jeffersonville, the 4th of July Parade is still happening on Thursday as well. A city representative said they will evaluate conditions in the morning and decide if the parade should still happen.
