LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police is expected to release new details, including bodycam video, of two recent incidents where individuals were shot by officers on Friday.

The department now releases body camera footage of what the department refers to as "officer-involved shootings" within 10 business days of the incident, per LMPD's new policy.

WHAS11 will stream the entire news conference, which begins at 1 p.m., here within this story and on all of our digital platforms, including YouTube and the free WHAS11+ app available on Roku, Fire TV and Apple TV.

Here's what we know about both shootings:

Portland shooting

LMPD responded to a "domestic situation" in the 400 block of North 25th Street in the Portland neighborhood on Dec. 14.

A 911 operator reportedly told responding officers that a suspect was on drugs and when police arrived, they reported hearing loud arguing coming from a room upstairs.

LMPD Chief Jackie Gwinn-Villaroel said it appeared to be a domestic situation where a family member had pulled a gun on other members of the family. A child was inside the home during the incident.

Officers tried talking to people inside the room, however the situation escalated, and as officers tried forcing their way inside, shots were fired. According to LMPD, two officers fired their weapons, Officers Shaine Edmondson and Jeffery Goldman. Both men have been with LMPD since April of this year.

One man was fatally shot and another person was left in critical condition. It's unclear if LMPD fired the fatal shot.

Shooting near Churchill Downs

On Dec. 8, 28-year-old Marvin Smith was shot by LMPD Sgt. Joshua Arnwine. Police said Smith refused to drop a weapon after running from a traffic stop on Fourth Street and Central Avenue, near Churchill Downs.

Gwinn-Villaroel said Smith was carrying a pistol with an extended magazine when he ran.

As of Dec. 12, LMPD said Smith was in police custody and was being treated at the University of Louisville Hospital.

Smith is charged with four counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (fentanyl, cocaine, opioids and meth), third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (unspecified drug) and trafficking in marijuana (enhanced).

Arnwine has been with the department since June of 2016. In that time, he has served multiple brief suspensions for repeated instances of improper vehicle use. He was also ordered to undergo "major counseling" following a prior citizens' complaint.
