Man arrested in Mississippi after July shooting kills one, awaiting extradition back to Jefferson County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is in custody after a shooting July shooting left another man dead and two women injured, according to a release from the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD). 

35-year-old Desmond Shaw was arrested in connection to the July shooting death of Jaron Starling in the area of 4th and Oak Streets.

Shaw was arrested in the Coffeyville, Mississippi on August 30 by the US Marshals. He awaits extradition to Jefferson County on charges of murder, assault 1st degree, criminal mischief 1st degree, and theft of a firearm. 

Currently, Shaw is in the custody of Mississippi authorities. 

In July, at about 9:40 a.m., LMPD responded to a shooting in the 400 block of West Oak Street.

Officers found three people, one man and two women, suffering from gunshot wounds. Officers rendered first aid to all victims before EMS transported them to UofL Hospital, the original release said.

The two women had serious injuries and the man died in the hospital shortly after his arrival to the hospital. 

LMPD detectives did not say what the relationship between the victims was, if any. They also did not say what led up to the shooting.
