'Bringing a hospital to the community': Norton West Louisville Hospital confirms opening day

This is the first time in 150 years a hospital will be located west of 9th Street in the city.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Norton West Louisville Hospital is opening on Nov. 11. This is the first time in 150 years a hospital will be located west of 9th Street in the city, located at 850 South 28th Street.

"I remember passing it up all through my childhood. There used to be an empty lot here. We used to walk through the lot to get to the Krogers and stuff like that," Houston Briscoe said.

He's a Parkland native working on the jobsite as a plumber.

"The campus was formed in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Kentucky to bring wraparound services and health care to a single location," a hospital spokesperson said. "Goodwill’s Opportunity Center will be part of the campus and will serve as its headquarters. The center also will provide social services with various community partners."

When it opens, the hospital will have a 24/7 emergency department inpatient treatment, operating rooms, laboratory services, imaging services, including X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI, and a retail pharmacy.

There will also be an outpatient office space for adult and pediatric primary care, women's services ( including obstetrics and gynecology), cardiology, orthopedics and more.

The company said, based on community feedback, the hospital will also have a centralized check-in area, community room, outdoor green space and food pantry.

The building will also feature work from local artists.

When WHAS11 News talked with Chief Administration Officer Corenza Townsend in May she said access is the name of the game.

"We are bringing a hospital to the community, we'll bring interview opportunities to the community," Townsend said. "Even if transportation is not an issue, access means convenience, as well. If we're hiring for a facility in West Louisville, it makes sense for us to bring the recruiters and the leaders who will be interviewing to West Louisville, just makes sense."

Townsend hopes, more than anything else, people will make use of the primary care services.

"So that it's a continuous journey to a healthier you," she said.

The hospital is still taking job applications. Officials said there is still time to apply if you're interested. If you're wanting to apply click here
