TARC releases 3 new route concepts for 2025, asks for public input

Officials said the first two options are under the assumption TARC won't receive any additional operating revenue.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville's public transit system revealed on Tuesday a couple of route redesign options they might use around the metro in 2025.

The first option is called the "ridership" concept, where buses would arrive every 15 to 30 minutes based on the route.

The second option would be the "coverage" concept where buses would arrived every hour to 90 minutes.

Officials said the first two options are under the assumption TARC won't receive any additional operating revenue, and shows they will have to cut up to 50% of its service compared to what is offered in Spring 2024.

“The two concepts with service reductions of up to 50 percent are not what TARC wants to do,” Executive Director Ozzy Gibson said. “But if we can’t find additional revenue, further service reductions will be the reality and those concepts show different ways to approach that hard decision.”

The final option would be called the "growth" concept, where they would provide 12% more services than TARC currently provides, but would require more investments from the region and community.

TARC wants the community's input before finalizing any plans.

"The TARC team will be out in the community from now until Sept. 12," Gibson said. "You'll see us at bus stops, you'll see us on social media hosting open houses and we'll be stopping by your neighborhood association meetings."
