Community rallies around LMPD officer's family after deadly crash on Taylorsville Lake Road

Here's how to support the family.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — After a deadly crash in southeast Jefferson County, the community is now rallying around a police officer and his family.

Erendida Lane, 40, died after Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) said a vehicle driving "erratically" crashed into her car on Taylorsville Lake Road on Jan. 13. Lane, a Chancey Elementary School instructor, was driving with her 14-year-old daughter who was also injured, but is expected to make a full recovery.

On Tuesday, the Louisville Metro Police Foundation started a fundraiser to support the family she left behind including her two children and husband of 19 years, LMPD Sergeant Chris Lane.

The foundation said the Lane family has already seen its share of tragedy.

In November 2021, Sgt. Chris Lane was shot in the face while off-duty in a construction zone on I-264. A construction worker, who was also shot, died at the scene.

ORIGINAL 2021 REPORT:

Rebecca Grignon Reker, executive director of the Louisville Metro Police Foundation, said they helped the family during that difficult time and will help now once again.
