Traffic signals on Breckenridge Lane damaged by small plane crash undergoing repair

According to Metro Public Works spokesperson Sal Melendez, the traffic signals at the Breckenridge Lane and Kresge Way intersection received major damage.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Traffic signals damaged following a small plane crash at a busy St. Matthews intersection are undergoing repairs.

According to Metro Public Works spokesperson Sal Melendez, the traffic signals at the Breckenridge Lane and Kresge Way intersection received major damage.

They have installed temporary signals to keep traffic flowing while work is completed to restore the system.

Melendez said they will be working with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to get new poles installed and rebuild the intersection.

Drivers are being asked to use caution as they travel through the intersection as the cycle could be different from what they’re accustomed to.

A plane took off from Bowman Field on Friday, flying north into Indiana before heading back towards the airport. Upon the return, the Piper PA 28 aircraft tried landing on a runway at Bowman Field. The aircraft descended onto Breckenridge Lane and made contact with a vehicle.

Three people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
