$1 million Powerball ticket bought in Kentucky expires with no winner coming forward

What happens when a lottery ticket expires in Kentucky?

PENDLETON, Ky. — After six months, a $1 million Powerball ticket sold in Kentucky has expired without a winner stepping up to claim it.

The winning ticket officially expired Monday when no one came to the Kentucky Lottery Headquarters in Louisville with the ticket.

The unclaimed ticket was sold on July 19, 2023, at a Pilot Travel Center No. 50, 489 Pendleton Road, in Pendleton, Kentucky, located in Henry County.

The ticket was sold just off I-71, about 30 minutes north of Louisville.

Since the prize was never claimed, the Lottery will return the money to Kentucky’s Unclaimed Prize Fund, which lawmakers designated to support the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship (KEES).
