LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gov. Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency as winter storms approach Kentucky.
So far, the storm has generated high winds, bitter cold temperatures with the potential for ice and snow to blanket much of the state.
The Beshear administration said the storms could possibly disrupt utility systems and impact road conditions.
The state of emergency allows the activation of state resources, including the Kentucky Emergency Management to help protect Kentucky communities and families.
Beshear’s office said the state’s Emergency Operations Center is preparing to activate to level four.
“We continue to ask Kentuckians to stay weather-aware as snow accumulation and below-freezing temperatures continue to sweep through the commonwealth,” Gov. Beshear said in a statement Sunday night. “Please check goky.ky.gov before you travel, and check in on your neighbors, loved ones and pets.”
A winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of the WHAS11 viewing area while a winter storm warning has been declared for southeastern Kentucky.
The state’s price gouging laws have also been activated to protect the commonwealth from grossly overpriced goods and services. To report price gouging, click here.
