Gov. Tim Walz visiting Louisville on Wednesday; What to know

The Minnesota governor is making a stop in Kentucky amid a battleground states campaign blitz, despite the Bluegrass State's previous voting record.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Less than two weeks out from Election Day, the Harris Campaign is bringing its message to Kentuckians, in the form of the Minnesota governor.

Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, Gov. Tim Walz, is expected at a fundraiser in Louisville on Wednesday.

Walz is expected to touch down at Muhammad Ali International Airport at about 4:15 p.m.

After he lands in Louisville, he will head to a private fundraiser before he's back on the road.

His schedule for the next few days is hectic, as he's stopping in Durham and Greenville, North Carolina, before attending a rally in Wilmington on Thursday.

His battleground states campaign blitz ends in Philadelphia, Penn., where he is expected to campaign on behalf of the Harris-Walz ticket.

Walz's stop in Louisville is considered unexpected, considering that Kentucky heavily favored former President Donald Trump in the past two presidential elections.

However, this last-ditch effort shows the push these candidates are making with just 13 days to go until Election Day.

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear was also on the shortlist of people being considered for the position of Kamala Harris' running mate before she chose Walz.

Shortly after the announcement, Beshear released a statement about the pick on social media, calling Gov. Walz "a great friend and a great choice."

In fact, Walz attended Beshear's inauguration ceremony in December 2023.

The 60-year-old Walz is a Midwestern governor, military veteran and union supporter who helped enact an ambitious Democratic agenda for his state, including sweeping protections for abortion rights and generous aid to families.

This year's general election takes place on Nov. 5. Polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
