LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The first round of the PGA Championship Thursday morning was delayed, according to PGA officials.
Professional golfers from around the world were at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, gearing up to start the 2024 PGA Championship.
The delay was due to heavy fog, officials say. The fog caused about a ten minute delay for morning start times in the championship.
By about 7:30 a.m., the play resumed at the PGA Championship was kicked off by 2003 PGA Champion Luke Donald.
During the practice rounds, spectators at Valhalla were ordered to shelter in place for about half an hour Tuesday morning after play was suspended due to "potentially dangerous weather approaching."
On Tuesday, PGA officials suspendedplay due to heavy rain. Staff could be seen placing "Weather Warning" signs on the golf course just before the shelter in place was issued. A billboard advised guests to take precautions and seek shelter.
