Economic impact of PGA Championship in Louisville could near $80 million, officials say

Louisville Tourism estimates roughly 200,000 people will travel to Valhalla Golf Club for the championship tournament.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the biggest golf tournaments of the year is less than a week away from taking over Louisville's Valhalla Golf Club.

The 2024 PGA Championship is expected to bring a big crowd to the Metro to watch the best professionals in golf on May 16 through May 19.

On the heels of a successful and historic 150th Kentucky Derby, Louisville Tourism estimated roughly 200,000 people will travel to Louisville for the PGA tournament.

The economic impact from those tourists could generate close to $80 million as well, second to the impact of the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, officials added.

On Tuesday, we got a better look at who will be playing in the 2024 PGA Championship.

Some major names include Tiger Woods, who won the PGA Championship at Valhalla back in 2000; hometown hero Justin Thomas; overall favorite Scottie Scheffler; Roy McIlroy; Colin Morikawa; Jon Rahm; and Brooks Koepka.
