Tiger Woods appreciates fans more than ever before

Woods' body may be a little beaten, but it's not broken.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Tiger Woods has won 15 major championships, one of those coming at Louisville's own Valhalla Golf Club.

He will tee off on Thursday at 8:04 a.m. with Adam Scott and Keegan Bradley.

In a news conference on Tuesday, Woods remembered the 2000 PGA Championship like it was yesterday. His win at Valhalla, beating Bob May in a playoff, was an iconic moment.

“I made a nice putt there and ran after it,” he said. “He made an unbelievable chip from the right rough and almost holed it. Again, we never really missed shots on that back nine and then three-hole playoffs, and you know for us to shoot those low scores, it was special.”

Now Woods is back 24 years later; his body is a little beaten, but not broken.

“Yeah, my body is OK,” he said. “It is what it is. I wish my game was a little bit sharper. I don't have a lot of competitive reps.”

One thing that remains is the love the crowd has for him, something he no longer takes for granted.

“Appreciating the warmth,” he said. “And the support of the fans is something that probably 10 years ago, I certainly didn't appreciate that then as much as I do now.”

Woods still believes he can beat the best. So, perhaps there's a little more magic left in those clubs.

“By driving it well and doing the things I need to do and what I did 24 years ago,” He said. "Hopefully it works.”
