LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville football team has dropped several slots in this week's AP Top 25 poll.
The Cardinals (3-1, 0-1) fell to No. 22, down seven spots from last week.
No. 14 Notre Dame (4-1, 2-1) gave Louisville their first loss of the season, defeating them 31-24 in South Bend Saturday night.
The Cardinals were marred by three turnovers in the first half, were 1-of-5 on fourth down attempts with one that included a delay of game penalty.
Coach Jeff Brohm discussed how those mistakes cost them the game.
“It was a combination of a lot of things, without question, the turnovers hurt us, and I think the situational football, 2/4 downs we didn't convert hurt us. We got to be better there and then defense,” he said. We started slow. It wasn't to have a plan to come defend the quarterback and allow him to run like that was not good. We adjusted finally and got to fix but let's happen too many games, we got to be better at that. We just didn't play a clean football game. When you don't do that, you're not going to beat Notre Dame.”
Louisville will host SMU (4-1, 1-0) at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium on Oct. 5.
