LIST | 19 University of Kentucky athletes are competing at the Paris Summer Olympics

There are 19 current and former athletes competing, and two coaches.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The 2024 Summer Olympics are underway and University of Kentucky fans will have plenty of reasons to watch.

Twenty-two current former athletes and coaches will be competing at this year's Summer Games in Paris. Wildcats will be involved in men's basketball, women's basketball, women's volleyball, track and field, diving and fencing.

Two current students, Lee Kiefer and Garek Meinhardt, qualified for the fencing event. The married couple are enrolled in the UK College of Medicine and will return next summer to finish their medical training.

Kiefer, of Lexington, won the gold medal in 2020. Meinhardt won his second bronze in 2020. They are the only two UK athletes not part of a varsity sport at the school.

UK will be well-represented on the 5-on-5 men's basketball side. Three former Wildcats will compete for Team USA, two will play for Team Canada and one will be part of the South Sudan squad.

UK dive coach Ted Hautau will be at the games as the dive coach for South Africa.

Volunteer assistant UK track and field coach Devynne Charlton will run the 100-meter hurdles the Bahamas. Assistant Kentucky swimming and diving coach Julia Vincent will represent South Africa in the women's 3-meter springboard.

  • Athletics (track and field): Aug. 1 – Aug. 11
