LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The semi driver killed in a fiery crash on I-65 South near the Kennedy Bridge on Saturday has been identified.
LMPD said the crash happened just before 5 p.m. at mile-marker 136.6 heading into downtown Louisville. Multiple lanes of traffic were blocked for several hours.
According to police, the driver lost control of the semi and struck the concrete median for unknown reasons. The semi caught on fire afterwards. LMPD spokesman John Bradley said the driver was unable to escape and died at the scene.
On Thursday, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as 44-year-old Ahmed Ibrahim.
Sue Zollman, a witness who contacted WHAS11 News, caught a large fireball on her dashcam as she was traveling back into southern Indiana from Louisville.
It was the second accident on that stretch of I-65 on Saturday.
Earlier, a semi crashed and overturned, causing it to lose its load and spill onto the roadway.
The driver in that crash had to be removed from the semi and was taken to the hospital.
Police did not disclose what may have led up to the current crash.
The investigation into the separate incident are ongoing.
