LOUISVILLE, Ky. — As summer draws to an end in Kentuckiana, expect the sun to set much earlier. In fact, the last 8 p.m. or later sunset in Louisville and southern Indiana is nearly here.

Since the summer solstice on June 21, Louisville has lost an hour and a half of daylight and continues to lose about two minutes of daylight each day.

Louisville's final 8 p.m. sunset is next Sunday, Sept. 8, but it's going to be setting much earlier than that by the end of the year.

By Nov. 4, the sun will begin to set around 5:30 p.m.

The sun will also soon start rising later as the days grow shorter. On Oct. 23, Louisville's sunrise will begin after 8 a.m.

So, when will later sunsets make a return next year?

The first 8 p.m. sunset of 2024 was on March 25 and we can expect it to arrive around the same time in 2025.

On May 31, 2025, you can expect the sun to set after 9 p.m. in Louisville.
