LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Tornado Watch was issued for Carroll, Franklin, Grayson, Green, Hardin, Hart, Henry, Larue, Marion, Nelson, Shelby, Spencer, Taylor and Washington counties in Kentucky until 4 a.m.
A watch means conditions are favorable for the development of severe storms capable of producing tornadoes.
A severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for northwestern Green County, south central Larue County, Hart County, west central Taylor County, northeastern Barren County, northwestern Metcalfe County and east central Edmonson County until 1 a.m.
A severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Spencer County, Nelson County, LaRue County, central Bullitt County and southeastern Hardin County until 12:45 a.m.
LG&E reports 9,093 of their customers are currently without power, and Duke said 761 customers are without power. Over 250 of them are in southern Indiana.
These new alerts come after multiple tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm watches were canceled following a brief round of thunderstorms in the region Thursday afternoon.
Around 2 p.m., the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a tornado warning for portions of Jefferson County, Indiana and Carroll County, Kentucky. Tornado warnings were also issued for Madison, Hanover and Milton, Indiana.
Officials said radar indicated rotation was spotted roughly 10 miles northeast of Scottsburg, Indiana.
A confirmed tornado was reported by Jefferson County Emergency Management officials in Madison, Indiana. Officials told WHAS11 damage was also reported in Greenbrier Road in the Hanover area and in Brooksburg, Indiana.
The Emergency Management Director of Jefferson County, Indiana, Matt True, said they have one person with a broken arm, and that no one has died.
He said 87 buildings, including 29 residential structures, were damaged by the severe weather.
NWS told WHAS11 that a survey team has arrived in Milton, Kentucky and has seen EF-1 damage so far, but they've only just begun the survey so more information will be forthcoming. NWS said it looks like the tornado went right along the river.
Survey crews are still investigating damage in Trimble County, Kentucky, but found preliminary evidence of a low-end EF-2 tornado in Milton. That's right across the river from Madison, Indiana.
Gov. Andy Beshear took to social media to say that some Kentuckians have been injured, but no deaths have been reported.
More severe weather
Two waves of storms are possible in the Louisville area Thursday. The first wave moved through in the afternoon.
According to the NWS, a threat of strong to severe storms exists across southern Indiana and northern Kentucky Thursday afternoon. A second strong line of thunderstorms is expected overnight into Friday.
Isolated damaging winds and isolated, brief spin-up tornadoes are possible.
