LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Thanksgiving Week is one of the busiest times for travel across the country; it can also be a very active week weather-wise!

Whether you’re taking to the skies, roads, or staying here locally, the weather may impact your holiday plans.

Here at home, after a sunny but cooler Tuesday, we’ll see an increase in cloud cover again on Wednesday ahead of our next weather system. If you’re headed to the grocery for any last-minute items, the bulk of the day should stay dry.

Rain moves in Wednesday evening through Wednesday night, with temperatures remaining above freezing.

Model trends show the bulk of the rainfall exiting Kentuckiana early Thanksgiving morning, but Thursday will remain dreary with lingering cloud cover and patchy drizzle.

Expect a brisk wind from the north-northwest, making our high temperatures in the 40s feel like the 30s.

Sunshine returns for Black Friday, but bundle up if you’re headed out shopping!  Temperatures will struggle to make it out of the 30s with overnight lows falling into the 20s. The coldest air of the season so far takes over for the weekend.

TRAVEL FORECAST

The atmospheric river that has been impacting California will bring plenty of moisture in the form of snow to the Sierra Nevada and central Rockies Tuesday into Wednesday.

If you’re heading to Colorado for the holiday or just connecting in Denver, be aware of potential winter weather impacts.

Meanwhile, the weather system that is set to bring rainfall to Kentuckiana Wednesday night will produce a wintry mix in central and northern Indiana and Ohio.

Thankfully, temperatures will remain near freezing so little to no accumulation is expected, though slick roads are possible.

This same system will bring rain and even a few strong storms to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic Thursday, with a soggy Turkey Day for the parades in New York and Philadelphia.

The coldest air of the season so far will pour into the northern Plains and Rockies Thursday into Friday, before tracking east Friday through the weekend.
