Weather Impact Alert Day | Here's when it's supposed to rain in Louisville on Friday

Heavy rain and thunderstorms will likely disrupt Friday morning's commute to school and work. Some storms could become strong.

Showers and storms will make for bouts of heavy rain and strong wind today.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A WHAS11 Weather Impact Alert Day has been called for Friday due to storm chances and heavy rainfall expected in Kentucky and Indiana.

Louisville and the rest of central Kentucky and southern Indiana range from over an inch of rain below normal this month. In fact, Louisville recently went 10 straight days without rainfall. Expect Mother Nature to make up for the lost rainfall as we take a look at Friday morning.

Plan on isolated to scattered storms early Friday morning into the afternoon. The main threats with the storms will be frequent lightning, strong wind, hail and heavy rain.

Unfortunately, this will impact the morning commute for drivers as well as kids heading off to the bus stop.

Threats

The threat for severe weather is low. However, if a storm were to become severe it would likely be for strong wind gusts or hail. Heavy rain will impact visibility for drivers in the morning as well, so be sure to take it slow. 

Overall, we are looking at a risk level one of five on the severe weather forecast scale.

A minor risk for severe weather is in the forecast today. Any storms that develop may produce small hail, wind and locally heavy rainfall.

Timing

Showers and storms will impact a lot of our area through 11 AM or even as late as Noon today. . Expect to see the heavy rain begin in Louisville throughout much of mid-morning, especially during the morning rush hour commute. The storms will likely all push east of I-65 by the 10 AM hour and beyond.

A spotty shower or storm may redevelop this afternoon along the weak front but they will be weak in nature and will mainly stay isolated and only drop heavy rain.

Expect all activity to wrap up during the lunch hour. Skies will gradually clear and temperatures will once again reach for the middle and upper 80s.
