LOUISVILLE, Ky. — It's our first chance this autumn season for widespread frost across Kentucky and Indiana overnight into early Wednesday morning.

A frost advisory has been posted from 2:00 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, advising us to protect any sensitive plants and vegetation tonight.

Frost advisories and freeze warnings are only issued at the beginning and end of the growing season.

Once we have a widespread killing frost and freeze, the alerts will no longer be issued for the rest of the year.

Low temperatures will fall to the mid-upper 30s in most locations, so how will it be cold enough to produce frost?

Well, air temperatures are generally taken about six feet off the ground, and believe it or not, just a little bit lower at ground level, temperatures can often be right at or below freezing.

A clear sky and light winds also help temperatures drop.

Our region will have another chance of frosty spots Wednesday night into early Thursday morning as well, as temperatures once again drop to the 30s, which is our chilliest spell of weather since early April.

Temperatures will be gradually warming back up for the rest of this week and we can enjoy 70s and sunshine this weekend!
