'It's like you don't know what's gonna happen anymore': Week of tragedies takes deep emotional toll on Bullitt County community

"We normally don't have things like this happen in this neighborhood. Everybody's usually very nice."

BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. — People living in Bullitt County are asking themselves "why?" after a set of tragedies hit the area this week.

On Thursday, Bullitt County authorities announced they are investigating a woman's death after she was found on the side of the road in a Hillview ditch.

Bullitt County Sheriff Walt Sholar said officers arrived to the scene on highway 1020, between Brooks Hill Road and South Brooks Station Drive, around 5:15 p.m. after a bicyclist spotted something on the side of the road.

The woman's identity is still not known at this time, Sholar said.

A Hillview small business owner, who asked not to be identified given the nature of the story, said she was driving home Thursday and came across the scene on highway 1020.

"It just scares you, because you don't know what's going to happen," she said. "We normally don't have things like this happen in this neighborhood. Everybody's usually very nice."

And on Wednesday, police said a Shepherdsville mother is facing murder charges for the shooting deaths of her two sons.

Neighbors on Bentwood Drive, in Shepherdsville, are mourning the loss of the two young brothers after police say their mother Tiffanie Lucas, 32, shot and killed them.

The Bullitt County community is planning to hold a vigil for Jayden Howard, 9, and Maurice Baker, 6, on Sunday.

According to a Facebook event page for the vigil, it will be held at Little Flock Baptist Church, located in Shepherdsville at 5500 N Preston Highway, at 5 p.m.

Lucas pleaded not guilty. During the arraignment, a Bullitt County judge set her bond at $2 million, saying "the court is finding her to be a danger to others."

The business owner said the two tragedies have taken a heavy emotional toll on the community.

"I personally have been very depressed over it," she said. "Children are so precious. They had their whole life ahead of them."
