LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Over half the LG&E customers affected by the tornado-producing storm that tore through Kentucky Sunday have had their power restored as of Tuesday morning.
During a news conference at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Louisville Mayor Craig Greenberg said a total of 19,408 customers were still without power. This is down from the over 42,000 customers who were without power Monday morning.
According to LG&E's Outage Map online, just over 16,000 customers didn't have power as of 2 p.m. on Tuesday. More than 33,000 customers are without power statewide.
During a news briefing on Monday, LG&E spokesperson Liz Pratt said the energy company is considering this outage restoration effort a "multi-day restoration event."
In response to the widespread outage, hundreds of workers came from Kentucky and neighboring states to the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville to assist LG&E in restoring power to customers.
"In addition to our hundreds of employees and business partners who are already working in the field and behind the scenes, we're bringing in an additional 700 line workers and support personnel from business partners," Pratt said.
LG&E officials say while they are working to restore power to all affected customers, crews are being expedited to focus on "critical customers," such as hospitals and emergency responding facilities.
"We appreciate our customers patience, and we will be working safely and as quickly as possible to get power restored," Pratt said.
