LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Metro Council has passed an ordinance giving Louisville's Alcohol Beverage Control the power to issue emergency suspensions of liquor licenses in the city.
The ordinance is in response to the growing number of violent crimes at late night bars across the Metro. The latest incident happened earlier this month at Café 360 in the Highlands where 21-year-old Theodore Brown was shot and killed.
The new ordinance will allow Metro ABC to issue immediate, emergency license suspensions in cases where there's a threat to public safety, health or welfare across the county. That included situations involving firearm use and violations that lead to a death.
It also lays out conditions to immediately shut down a business, if deemed necessary.
