GUIDE | What you need to know about the 2024 PGA Championship

A big crowd is expected in Louisville from May 13 to May 19 as they come to watch the best professionals in golf.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — One of the biggest golf tournaments of the year is less than a week away from taking over Louisville's Valhalla Golf Club.

The 2024 PGA Championship is expected to bring a big crowd; Louisville Tourism predicts about 200,000 people will travel to Valhalla Golf Club for the tournament.

Practice rounds start on May 13 and the championship starts on May 16. It will end on May 19. 

Here's everything you need to know before you step foot on the historic course.

Tickets

You can still get tickets on resale websites like Seat Geek or Stub Hub, but the further down the week you go, the more expensive the tickets get:

Items you can and can't bring

Spectators are allowed to bring jackets, comfortable walking shoes, portable phone charger and sunscreen. Nursing mothers are allowed to bring any necessary materials they need, and storage and refrigeration are available at the Hole 1 fairway and the Hole 10 tee according to the website.

First aid stations and a Women's Health Station will be at the Main Spectator Entrance near Hole 1's fairway and Hole 10's fairway.

Weather

Any weather warnings will be posted on the leaderboards and video boards throughout the course.

In case of inclement weather in or around the course, the championship said you should avoid:

  • Tall and/or isolated trees
  • Hilltops and high places
  • Metal fences
  • Telephone poles
  • Open fields
  • Golf carts
  • Bodies of water

Accessibility Services

Designated parking for people with disabilities who need lift-equipped transportation will be at the UofL Shelbyhurst Campus according to officials. The PGA will not have wheelchairs available for rent.

The front row of the PGA Public Parking Lot will be reserved for people with disabilities that don't require lift-equipped transportation.

Guests with disabilities are encouraged to stop at the Accessibility Services Centers to get a wristband that is good for the duration of their time at the championship.

An additional wristband will be given to one companion traveling with the guest, but there will be exceptions for families with young children.

Service animals are permitted at the championship.

Within the venue, there are seven pick-up locations for those with disabilities:

  • Main Entrance
  • Hole 17 Fairway & Hole 14 Tee
  • Hole 13 Fairway
  • Hole 10 Fan Zone
  • Hole 7 Green & Hole 8 Tee
  • Practice Range
  • Hotel Pick-Up & Drop-Off

A typical wait time is supposed to be about a half hour.

ADA viewing areas can be found at the following holes:

  • Hole 1 Tee
  • Hole 7 Fairway
  • Hole 8 Green
  • Hole 12 Green
  • Hole 13 Fairway
  • Hole 16 Green
  • Hole 18 Green

Seating is first-come, first-served. Anyone with additional questions can email AccessibilityServices@pgahq.com.

Transportation

Complementary PGA Public Parking is at the Kentucky Exposition Center through Gate 6 or the Main Gate officials said. A shuttle will take spectators to and from the parking lots to the main spectator entrance at Valhalla Golf Club officials said.

The parking lot will be open May 13 through May 19. There is no overnight parking available.

Anyone using a rideshare service -- Uber, Lyft, Z-Trip -- must use the PGA Championship's Official Rideshare lot near the club. Just use "2024 PGA Championship" as your destination in the app. Officials warned guests should prepare for longer wait times if using rideshare services during the main departure hours.

Commuters will likely have limited access to I-65 and I-264 anywhere near the Expo Center, the Fairgrounds and the airport.

Most of the Valhalla PGA Championship traffic will flow from I-65 to Watterson eastbound, then shuttles will get on I-64 before merging onto the Gene Synder.

From there, shuttles will get off at Shelbyville Road and drive down to Valhalla Golf Club. Drivers should expect delays every day from May 13 to May 19.

No walk-ins, drop-offs or public parking is permitted at or around the course during Championship Week.
